Modern Day Gangs
Believe it or not, there are at least 40 gangs per state. There are many different types of gangs. They have been around just as long as Americans have lived in America, wherever people are, there are gangs. People make gangs for various reasons since there are various types of gangs. Some present-day gangs have been made for drug organizations, street recognition, to be known, to be treated better, the reasons go on and on. Since the 1960s, there have been the Crips and the Bloods, which are two of the most notorious gangs out there. They inhabit the west side of the US, in LA and other parts of California. The Crips, created by troubled teenagers, established territories throughout LA. Each neighborhood in their territory had/has a gang. The Crips' name came from the word "cripple", as one member had a bow-leg, and the nickname stuck for every member. Crips were identified by the color blue. The Bloods were created in reaction to the Crips. Also created by troubled teenagers, their territory was split with the Crips. If the Crips had a territory in an area, the Bloods would try to get a territory close to that area. The Bloods were associated with the color red. These gangs have various gang wars over clients for their drug industry. These two gangs have established territories across the US. So now, not only the west side, but the east side as well, spreads conflict further.
